Restore classes in Ormeau — slow down, and let something go.

Supported, unhurried and deeply restful. Nothing to achieve, nothing to keep up with — the one class where doing less is the whole idea.

What is a Restore class?

A restorative class lying supported by bolsters and blankets in the dimmed studio

Restore is the slowest thing we teach. Rather than working through a sequence, you settle into a small number of supported positions and stay there — long enough for your muscles to stop bracing and your nervous system to notice it is safe to stand down. Props do the holding, so you are not using effort to stay in the shape. Mostly, you lie there and breathe.

It sounds like doing nothing. In practice it is one of the more confronting classes on the timetable, because being still with no task is a skill most of us have quietly lost. The first few minutes can feel restless. Then something drops, and the last twenty minutes go somewhere else entirely. People regularly say it is the deepest rest they have had all week, and they are usually not exaggerating.

Physiologically, holding a supported position without effort is what lets connective tissue release and the parasympathetic nervous system take over — the part of you responsible for digestion, repair and sleep. That is why a restorative class tends to show up afterwards as better sleep, softer shoulders and a longer fuse, rather than as soreness.

It suits almost everyone, and it particularly suits people who think they are too busy for it: anyone running on adrenaline, sleeping badly, recovering from illness or injury, or moving through grief or burnout. There is no fitness requirement of any kind. If you can lie on the floor and be uncomfortable with stillness for a few minutes, you can do this class.

Is Restore right for you?

  • Never been to a class

There is nothing to keep up with and nothing to get wrong. If you are nervous about walking into a studio for the first time, this is the softest possible door.

  • Recovering or depleted

After illness, injury, poor sleep, or a stretch of life that has taken more than it gave back. Restore asks nothing of you and gives your body room to repair.

  • Training hard elsewhere

If you run, lift or train most days, this is the recovery session that makes the rest of it work. Stillness is not the opposite of your training — it is part of it.

Before you come — the practical bits

Do I need any experience to come to a Restore class?

None at all. Everything is supported and everything is guided, and there is no sequence to follow or pace to keep up with. It is a genuinely good first class if you have never set foot in a studio.

What should I wear and bring?

Warm, comfortable clothes with nothing digging in — you will be still for long stretches and your body temperature drops. Layers and warm socks are a good idea. Bring a water bottle, and anything that helps you settle. Ask when you book if you are unsure what props the studio provides.

How is Restore different from yoga?

A yoga class moves — it builds strength and mobility with the breath leading. Restore does not really move at all. You hold a few supported positions for several minutes each so that the body can let go rather than work. Different job, different feeling afterwards.

Is it normal to fall asleep?

It happens constantly and nobody minds. If you drift off, your body clearly needed it. You will be brought back gently at the end of the class.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes — classes are booked online ahead of time so the room can be set up with enough props for everyone. You can see what is on and reserve your spot from our timetable.

Where exactly is the studio?

We are in Ormeau, on the northern Gold Coast, an easy drive from Pimpama, Coomera and Upper Coomera. Full directions and parking details are on our contact page.
